Guinness World Records has announced that Grand Theft Auto IV has become the highest ever entertainment earner within the first 24 hours after release, selling 3.6 million units and generating $310m in revenue. That compares to Halo 3 (previous fastest-selling
videogame) which generated $170m, Spider-Man 3 (fastest-selling box-office release) which generated $60m and Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows (fastest-selling book) which generated $220m. For reference, GTA IV reached the $500m mark during the first week following its release. (da GamesIndustry)

maybe, just maybe, EA wanted Take-Two not just because it wants to sell

Sony's Phil Harrison, head of worldwide studios for Sony, has
expressed his frustration that the company's Japanese division was too
slow at accepting the ideas of social gaming - a market now dominated
by rival manufacturer Nintendo and its Wii console, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

Europe already had three products on the market designed specifically
to encourage social gaming in the living room before the Wii was even
released - the EyeToy, SingStar and Buzz - but Japanese execs didn't
